I agree that the gofundme accounts are overused, but its a tough situation. If they didn't have flood insurance and their house and possessions are a total loss, bankruptcy is their only option, unless i'm mistaken. A lot of lives ruined, financially speaking.

I've seen them from what most would consider legitimate to helping fund their kid going to college "because she's worked so hard and DESERVES this."

There is even a site out there now where bridezillas can con you into donating to a "honeyfund" to help finance the honeymoon and wedding they want/deserve but cannot afford.

Just looked at the site.

There are a bunch of generic ones out there. Help me help the flood victims of SC. Or others that are for a friend they know with very few details or generic flood pictures you can get off the news.

I'm sure there are plenty of legitimate ones on there, but looks like the fraud and entitlement is rampant.

FEMA isn't helping these people. The taxpayer is helping these people.

I have no problem with people asking for help, donations, etc if it's a worthy cause. And that is in the eye of the beholder. If I want to give money, talent, or time. I give. If I don't, well then I don't.

But I don't know when or where the government became a charity case. Taking my tax dollars without a choice and giving it to others because they didn't have enough insurance coverage doesn't seem real fair to me.

This is NOT the time to try to fund your parents furniture restoration. There are people out there that actually NEED monetary help. IMO, if you have a J-O-B, go to work instead of creating another goFundMe page.
