    Default Saturday

Taking the wife and kids down for the day Saturday to fish and probably hang out on a sand bar. Thinking about Edisto, Hunting Island (Fripp Inlet), or maybe IOP. Anything going on at any of those places this weekend that would crowd it up? I don't really like people and would like to avoid as many of them as possible. Thanks

I think the Windjammer on IOP has a big band party Friday and Saturday.

Preciate it. That was last on the list anyway, figured it'd be crowded even on a regular Saturday

Hasn't ever been any time I've been in it. We camped at HI last summer and used Russ Point every day and never saw more than 3 or 4 boats at the hill. It was great

We are supposed to do the Santee-Charleston trip tomorrow morning. What do you low country guys think this weather is going to do?

Be hot and humid with a chance of thunderstorms like every other summer day down here.
Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Go to toofers! Dewees shouldn't be too crowded with all the other stuff going on.

So Salty, based on your vast boating experience, would you make the trip tomorrow with four kids from Santee to Charleston?

As long as it isn't windy on the lakes you'll be fine. If it is just put in below the locks and you won't have to worry about the lakes being rough.

seems to me that a party at the windjammer has absolutely nothing to do with crowds on the water in the IOP area.

Capers inlet always is crowded in the summer...but not crowded compared to a LOT of other places.

You could put in at the IOP marina and get far enough away from people in a matter of minutes.
Ugh. Stupid people piss me off.

You didn't ask me but here's what I think.

Watch the wind. With a cool front blowing in it may be a lot worse than is predicted. If it's blowing hard from the north, they won't open the locks.

If you get through, the river will be fine.

Low pressure system moving through with 50- 60% chance of T-storms. Sorry, read it quick the first time and thought you were coming up the ICW for some reason. I'd defer to someone that frequents those lakes. I'm going to wait until tomorrow to call whether we try offshore, looking highly doubtful right now.

If you dont like people, charleston waterways will be a mess due to the Regatta being towards the South. Waterways north of charleston towards IOP and Capers are always stupid crowded.

What kinda boat are you making the trip in? It got pretty nasty really fast last night on the lake.

Thanks Salty and others. We will be in a 23 foot center console. We have typically put in and left the truck/trailer at Polly's Campground right there at 95. I was thinking if we got in the water by 10 or 11 I could be across the lakes and at the Locks shortly after lunch.

Moultrie can be tricky if wind kicks up. Leave early enough to be at locks by 10 or 11ish and you should be fine. Pack raincoats and have fun.

I have a radar app on my phone (I bet you do too). Pay attention to storm clouds and plan accordingly. It is only about a 70 mile trip, so if you stop at landing/restaurant/covered area for awhile to let rain go by you can still make it. I always like to be in charleston harbor by mid afternoon, to avoid the afternoon storms

That is what I was shooting for, mid-afternoon. Other than Polly's, where is a good landing to leave truck and trailer?
