Someone enlighten me on who makes an AR scope mount that sits high enough to hold a1"tubed 3-9x40 scope (non- tactical) that the A2 sight/gas block doesn't have to be removed. This is my first ar, so forgive my ignorance.

Burris, Nikon, Larue, et al, all ought to be high enough. I'm pretty sure the front sight will basically 'disappear' in the bottom of the scope so I'm not sure you need to worry too much.
If it doesn't, you can add a 'riser block' under the scope mount.

Don't worry about front sight. You shouldn't be able to see it no matter which mounts you choose.
Ok, I guess that opens the door up. I told y'all I was ignorant. Thanks.
The best bang for the buck is the Burris Pepr. Its not a Larue but for non combat use they hold pretty well and don't break the bank.

I am sure Talley, in Santee, has something that will fit. You can set up an appointment and take the rifle there to try different mounts. I did and they were great to work with!
You probably should go with the LaRue. It should hold up to the rigors of the daily combat it will see!!
I've got two ADM Recon mounts and I've been more than impressed.
Do you want a fixed mount or a QD platform?
Warne makes a couple of good mounts. Ramp and SKEL.
