Was on the bear island draw deer hunt the first part of this week and there were plenty of bwt, gwt, shovelers, gadwall and a few blacks in the impoundments.

I've been talking about it for two days, like a giddy child.

They will show on this front....you can count on it.
Be proactive about improving public waterfowl habitat in South Carolina. It's not going to happen by itself, and our help is needed. We have the potential to winter thousands of waterfowl on public grounds if we fight for it.

I think they will since there won't be any pressure on them yet. I doubt it will get cold enough here to push them out before opening day. As long as there is food, why would they leave?

Saw a good many shovelers back when it was early teal season. Ain't been out on the water much since then though.

Hopefully people will be more responsible with them but I doubt it.

Scdiver thanks! It was early when I posted.

Advice to anyone who loves to shoot ducks. Running ducks up or just bumping ducks as you ride and "scout" is not scouting. Invest in a good pair of binoculars. Take your time and listen. The pressure we put on ducks as we ride can be just as harmful as sky busting!

Terrible advice. If you don't scare them up, you will never know exactly how many there were and what all species, so you won't know what types and how many decoys to bring when you come back to hunt. Mudmotors will get you into places where ducks can go, but regular motors can't. Every wise duckhunter should have a mudmotor or two.

There's a little group I know of that shows up like clockwork with a fair amount of mallards mixed in every year about this time. Problem is they get "scouted" to another area code long before anyone has a chance to hunt them.

I obviously don't know what the fuck I am talking about then.
Take me to Bear Island now with your spotting scope and I will bet $100 that every dark duck we see is a mottled.
