Testing of the .50 Cal guns on P-51 'Mustang Twilight Tear'. This aircraft is owned by Ron and Diane Fagen, and can be seen at Fagen Fighters WWII Museum in Granite Falls, MN. She is flown regularly, and was a Grand Champion winner at Oshkosh in 2009.

They had to strap the plane down to keep it from moving all over the place when them cannons went off, I wonder how much it moved the plane around in flight when fired?
Back in the day, my dad used to take me out to shoot at McEntire ANG base. There was a wooden structure, full of dirt, near the north area of the airfield area we would shoot into.
He explained that, when they had P-51's (later designated F-51's) they used that pit to align the guns to a central point of aim.
