Good looking fella. Hope all turns out alright.
I want to Thank everyone for their prayers and phone calls. God is good! Timber is home but in a lot of pain which can be understood. They removed a 5lb+ tumor this size of a volleyball and also his spleen. The old boy is tough as nails and will hopefully be back to his old self soon.
I will say this.....the vet wasn't kidding when she said that he would be trashed from the anesthesia dose for awile. It does bother me that he want sit or lay down. He is in another world but still here with us.
Thanks again, Timberman22

Great news
Good to hear. A friend had a similar surgery done on her "old guy" last year, he's still going strong. Here's hoping for a few more good years! We have an 11 year old, so we're counting our blessings every day like you are.

Thank God he is still here. Went through a scare with my ol' mutt this past week but thanks goodness he and yours are gonna be alright.

Hope the ol' guy is feeling a bit better by now.
Any word on when the pathology report will be back so you know if it's benign or a sarcoma, et al?
Just a thought in case he needs any future surgery... request that the Vet give him gas anesthesia instead of a shot. It can be adjusted as needed to keep him under, and he'll recover extremely quickly instead of being groggy for days after.
We've not had a dog of ours go under without using gas for the last 23 years, and that includes numerous cancer surgeries, including one tumor the size of a softball on the flank. It's safer, and the dog walks out on their own power in an hour or two after surgery most of the time.
Maybe Glenn can post up and explain the pros and cons for both.
Good luck!!!

I would think vet would have done that but this was a major surgery with the spleen (organ) being removed as well. He walked out under his own power but was in another world. I think his age had something to do with it a well. I would also be curious if Glenn has any insight on this procedure.
Happy for both of you!!

If love could have saved you, you would have lived forever.
Missing you my great friend.
I re-read what I wrote and apologize if I sounded a little arrogant. I just have a strong opinion on the gas vs. shots based on a case year's ago where a guy's dog died due to an overdose of anesthesia by a vet (not our current vet), and another time where my dog was almost killed by a well-regarded vet school when I told them to use gas and they didn't even though my dog had a cardiac condition. It took him almost a month to get back to where he was before he went in for tests.
Our current vet (for the past 20 years) always uses gas if at all possible, and particularly on senior dogs, because the dog's wake up almost immediately, the gas clears their system very quickly, and the potential for an overdose is supposedly pretty low compared to a shot. As he says, you can't take the shot back once you give it, whereas with gas you can always stop administering it.
Anyway, I'm really glad to hear he's doing well at this point and hope he continues doing so.
