    Default Catalytic Converter

A guy who works for me has 2007 Ford Expedition with a bad CC. Any recommendations or projected costs on replacing? POS just shut off on him on 85 in Greensboro.

Corksoakers told him $3k to fix at some place in Charlotte

Ouch--He should be able to find a replacement on Ebay or similar that meets emission standards in all states except CA and maybe a couple others. I don't think SC is one of the states with higher emissions standards. I had a similar deal. Found one for about $160 and paid a local muffler guy to weld it on for another $100. If he goes this route, he may be able to negotiate the scrap value of the old CC. They tend to bring good money at the scrap yard.

If you gut it, save the precious metals inside.

It's a wire mesh converter. It doesn't have precious material on the inside.

That wire mesh used to be coated in Palladium and/or Platinum. Has Ford changed to the stainless and/or Inconel mesh now?

I've been out of the exhaust system business for a few years, but used to work for a company making CC's and exhaust systems for GM, BMW, Mercedes and Dodge, etc. They were all using the precious metal CC's a few years back.

I replaced mine with a flowmaster universal high flow cat. You couldn't breathe idling at a red light before
