Yea, I have also nailed feet open toe'd on a board and dried them that way. They look better that way, to me.

Drill bit ran through the leg will get most the marrow out.

That's the point. If you're not gonna help, then why bother? Anything more is simply pretentious.

If your way is harder than (1)pinning the fan to a piece of cardboard and (2) pouring Borax all over it then FUCK YOUR WAY.

Salt or Borax, fuck all that meat removing shit. If it's a truly special bird you should do a cape or full body mount.

Spurs: hacksaw through bone on both sides. Meat comes right off with a semi sharp knife. Poke a small stick inside bone to remove marrow and give the spurs a quick wash. I usually borax them along with beard and fan just in case. Once cured, I sand with high grit sandpaper to polish them and then put a couple of clear coats of finish. Makes them look really nice. You can also use a dremel to shape the bone and peroxide it to whiten it up.

Toof if you want to give him something special to remember that turkey by, get him a nice journal to record all the ones yet to come. Write up every detail of his first one, stick a couple pictures between the pages and encourage him to fill up the remaining pages and pass it on to his kids one day.
