    Default BGE question

I have a Large BGE. The vent cap at the top keeps falling off when i open it.
The store i got it from say there is no way to secure it. My question is do others have this issue?? or do you remove the vent every time you open the lid??

    Thanks.

    hmmm...it must not fit right.

is yours new? i would swap it out at the store. If not, just wait for it to get gummed up and you should be fine. I seem to recall that mine was "loose" at the beginning.
Ugh. Stupid people piss me off.

Shouldn't be falling off. I've never had mine come off. I'd call BGE and ask them. There are 2 guys that run the warranty dept and are great to work with. They'll probably tell you to try to swap it out where you bought it, and if they refuse to let them know and BGE will replace it.

Also, I might try to measure the opening of another Large BGE and compare it to yours. Maybe your opening is smaller??

Mine has fallen off a couple of times. It is generally a result of opening the lid to hard or fast.

    Just slow down.

Mine is very loose...I think too loose for it to get gumed up. I do remove it when I'm done and put the cap on every time I use it. It was new in December and has been used a ton- I don't think it is getting any better.

I did slow down on opening the lid, and that helped some, but last night it fell of about 3-5 seconds after the lid was completely open.

I noticed that the Red ones(Kokomodo or whatever they are called) have a gasket up there(like the hi temp gasket) and are very tight.

I'll probably check with BGE since i went to the store once and they were no help.

send that hunk of junk to me, and go get yourself a weber. I'll bear your burden.

    mine has never fallen off.

    1) your hinge might open too far

    2) might just be a bit loose because its new

My advice is to cook 2-3 boston butts on it and get some grease gommed up on on it. That will make it stick.

    1) your hinge might open too far - If the cap is falling off long after you opened the lid as you stated, i'm thinking this may be your problem.

Check the adjustment screws on your hinge, it sounds like its opening to far. Mine was a little loose when it was new but it's never fallen off. It's good and gummed up now from cooking on it so much.

I've never had problems with mine, but I've seen plenty of people put a gasket on their daisy wheel.

800-900 dollar cooker and the vent cap falls off? I would definitely call BGE and chat with the warranty dept.
