Did they tear up while paying for the blind? That kind of tips the scales.

Anyone throwing stones here while deer hunting over a corn pile can suck it.

I did not know this. So unless they catch you pouring it out or you are standing in it hunting they have no case ?

No, they could get a camera picture, take a seed sample and prove that you bought the exact same seed and build a circumstantial case, you could get ratted out, etc., etc., etc. You can take your chances in Federal Court. The law just changed in 1997 from "you are hunting illegally if you are hunting over bait period" to "The LEO must PROVE that you placed the bait, knew or reasonably should have known that the area was baited".

Of course they increased the fines for baiting waterfowl up to $150,000 as a deterrent as well as many other new rules.

For instance, Mornin Woodie could go pour a sack of corn out in a duck hole on his club. He could take his best friend every Wednesday and they get their ass. 2 weeks before the end of the season, Mornin could get the flu, so he tells his buddy to go bait the hole for him. They go a week later and get caught. The Federal prosecutor pulls his buddy into a room and says "we are taking all of your shit. Gun, Truck, Dog, everything you used in the hunt. We are also going to ask the Magistrate to charge you the maximum, $150,000. OR, you rat on Mornin and we will drop the charges to a $700 fine. He agrees. Now, old Mornin is looking at a $200,000 fine for "Directing the placement of bait on a club". If you don't think this happens, ask a few old boys in LA about it...

Yessir. And lost hunting privileges for 5 years. Your buddy may look like your buddy grinnin' at you over that boat load of ducks you baited. He can become your worst nightmare just that fast. Hell he might be the one that drops the dime on you for a list of endless reasons you never saw coming...

Moral of that story Art, ....never tell your buddies that you baited those duck holes. Lol
Be proactive about improving public waterfowl habitat in South Carolina. It's not going to happen by itself, and our help is needed. We have the potential to winter thousands of waterfowl on public grounds if we fight for it.

Human nature being what it is and as often as "good guys" turn out to be shitheels, I'd say that would be a wise course...

I think DU should sue the Newspaper.

It's obvious the Newspaper wanted to draw readers.. but using the term "President", makes it sound like a high end exec.
When in reality, it was a lowly volunteer "area chairman".

It slanders the org, in a way... and a high end lawyer could probably reap rewards out of the Newspapers terminology.

It gave the org a larger black eye, by the effort to draw readers (IMHO).

    Just sayin...

tsmart--JAB has had a hard-on for DU for many years. Its a common problem out there and people want a scapegoat. this happens often. DU has how many volunteers? Surely some of them break the rules from time to time. I just want DU to keep protecting wetlands because they have the most $$.
Ugh. Stupid people piss me off.

I drank the DU Kool aide for a good while.
Don't drink as much now, but still think they do some good.
But I do now know some of their policies and rhetoric is total BS IMHO.

I was a DU District Chair at one time, as well as an Area Chair.
We had a new RD come in, that turned me off real quick, so now I'm just a member.
If Curtis Wooten would have stayed on as RD, I'd probably still be active...

    Never the less...
Even though I'm NOT big on DU any longer... I'll admit they got a bad wrap in this article.
And I kinda got a rise out of the article too, until I understood the underlying facts of how this fella was actually related to DU...

Maybe he and Jeff Folies can start a new org...
    Corn Unlimited...

Better yet, have a hand bait those holes that doesn't hunt.

Delta in a nutshell: Breeding grounds + small wetlands + big blocks of grass cover + predator removal + nesting structures + enough money to do the job= plenty of ducks to keep everyone smiling!

Exactly! Its about elimination of competition. Fat boys with high dollar fields don't want poor boys with
a $5 bucket of corn killing "their" ducks. Same deal with elimination of topsowing wheat for doves.
